Thirst: The Dog Days of August

Late summer lethargy didn’t stop us from convening to share tales at Black Spring Books.

The city's thick heat. Afternoons flattened across the heavy air. In the final heave before this season turns, tell us your stories of lethargic late summer nights, of teenage adventures, or canine companions...All are welcome.

Storytellers

  • Dan Vigilano is a comedian and storyteller who regularly makes everyone at the Moth laugh except the judges. His 2 one-man shows are on youtube at DangerDanV.

  • David Rey Martinez has taken the comedy world by storm with his endearing and uproarious style. He’s done stand-up at Caroline’s, Gotham Comedy Club and many other NYC hot spots and has been in The New York Comedy Festival. He is also in an amazing hip-hop improv show called “Off Top” at the People’s Improv Theater. He’s also appeared in sketches for Funny or Die, guested on Chris Gethard Presents, and a multitude of podcasts.

  • Katie Lee Wright is a lawyer by day, exploring her creative side by night. Although she does not consider herself a creative per se, her willingness to speak honestly of herself and her life experiences, and her gift for storytelling makes her a welcomed addition to the Thirst crew.

Thirst: Foreign Soil

Thirst makes its first venture onto foreign soil with a night of stories co-hosted by Paris Lit Up at Culture Rapide in Paris.

Have you ever stood on strange terrain? Heels sinking into the soil or toes mashing on hard cobble. Tell us about the Earth you've explored, ditches you dug, or a faraway place that got away.

Storytellers

Bruce Sheffield got his voiceover nom de guerre in Paris, where he’s based, when the recording engineer forgot his last name and started referring to him as Bruce Shhh… It stuck and the rest is history. His poetry and singing background lend itself well to storytelling with narrative gravitas, intimacy and clarity.

Thirst: Hatch

We gathered on Pier 41 as the sunset over the Hudson to tell our hatching tales. We hatch ideas, plans, and eggs. They incubate and grow inside us before they're ready to make their way out into the world. A hatch is a portal to a new place, what goes through the hatch and comes out the other side?
