Thirst: Heroes & Sound

September’s edition of Thirst featured sound installations – a recounted story, an album by Scott Thorough recorded on a cassette tape, and the dulcet noises of subways from different countries — while Saskia Kahn and Brian Kelly showed their photos.

We also told stories honoring our heroes from childhood piano teachers to difficult students to mentors who have passed away.

Artists

Adam Levy is a product manager, developer, writer, and technology futurist living in Manhattan. He has worked with Apple, Google, Uber, Facebook, The Washington Post, and Bloomberg. He knows, and he is very sorry.

Scott Thorough is a Brooklyn born rap producer, film composer and INFP Scorpio. Thorough began making beats and producing albums as a young adult, eventually working with rap and indie artists across the country as well as providing original music for film and commercials.

Saskia Kahn is a multidisciplinary visual artist from the Manhattan Beach section of Brooklyn, NY. Raised in a family full of artists, including illustrator Edward Sorel and design visionary Fritz Kahn, she discovered photography as a means of capturing the quirks and characters of the quickly gentrifying neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Brooklyn Rail, The Huffington Post, and more.  She received her BFA from Brooklyn College and is Vice President of LightField, an bi-annual photography festival in Hudson, NY.

And the usual: Brian Kelly, Alex Brook Lynn & Victoria Mendez

Storytellers

Isabel Alvarez was born in Manhattan and raised in NYC, Westchester and eastern Suffolk county (lots of beaches & some cows).  Isabel still spends her time in New York, performing and writing songs among other things. Her first recorded album as Miss Iz is currently in production and she lives to collaborate with other artists of all mediums. You can see her perform solo and sometimes with others on Tuesdays at 7pm in the west village at IGST Village.

David Brendel is a screenwriter, journalist, and documentary producer. He currently has no outstanding warrants. That he’s aware of.
